Emergency Management is a combination of your local state and federal governments working together in partnership with local volunteers and businesses, to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from all hazards that affect a jurisdiction.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency is the local level agency tasked with the responsibility for the coordination of the mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts to protect the lives and property of the citizens of St. Clair County.

In addition to the many natural hazards that impact St. Clair County such as tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, floods, winter storms, wild fires and drought, there are other manmade and technological hazards that pose an equal, if not greater, threat tot he citizens of St. Clair County.

These hazards require specific planning and programs that include:

  • The Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP)
  • Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)
  • Superfund and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Title III
  • Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA)
  • Waste Isolation Pilot Program (WIPP) - Transportation of nuclear waste across Interstates 20 and 59, through St. Clair County
